Mars, the US$50 billion-plus global business, is doubling down on the high-growth freeze-dried candy segment with the introduction of M&M’S POP’d Caramel. This launch marks the first-ever freeze-dried product for the iconic M&M’S brand, following the successful 2024 debut of SKITTLES POP’d, and signals a strategic commitment to textural innovation in its confectionery portfolio.

Strategic Expansion in Novel Textures

The new M&M’S POP’d Caramel is designed to capture consumer demand for airy and crunchy textures while retaining the core, popular caramel flavour of the M&M’S lineup. Martin Terwilliger, Vice President of Marketing at Mars Wrigley North America, framed the launch as an evolution: “We’re giving fans a whole new way to enjoy the classic caramel flavor… This fresh and fun new treat takes everything you love about M&M’S and gives it a light, crispy crunch, bringing the flavors and textures together in an unexpected new way.”

This expansion into freeze-drying underscores Mars’ recognition of a growing consumer appetite for bold and playful textural experiences in snacking. By leveraging this technology, the company is effectively redefining how classic treats are consumed, ensuring its heritage brands remain relevant and competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

Phased Go-to-Market Strategy

Mars has planned a calculated, multi-channel rollout for the new product. The initial launch phase will focus on direct-to-consumer digital channels and proprietary retail locations:

  • November 3: A 5.5oz Small Stand-Up Pouch will be made exclusively available on TikTok Shop and MMS.com.
  • November 10: The product will become available at M&M’S Stores.
  • January 2026: A nationwide rollout across broader retail channels will commence, with additional sizes expected to follow later in the year.

This phased approach allows Mars to test market response and build initial momentum through high-engagement platforms like TikTok before committing to a full-scale national distribution.

Aligning with Corporate Innovation Goals

The introduction of M&M’S POP’d Caramel, alongside the recent addition of M&M’S Honey Roasted Peanut, reflects Mars’ ongoing commitment to evolving its confectionery offerings with a focus on creativity, taste, and excitement.

The success of the freeze-dried platform is vital for Mars, Incorporated, a family-owned global business that manages a diverse portfolio across pet care, snacking, and food, including leading brands like ROYAL CANIN®, SNICKERS®, and WHISKAS®. By consistently introducing innovations like the POP’d line, Mars aims to sustain market leadership and drive future growth within its massive global footprint.
