Africa’s lifting and materials-handling sector is preparing to spotlight its top performers as nominations officially open for the 2nd Southern African Lifting Awards.

Following a successful inaugural event that established a new benchmark for the industry, the 2026 edition is scheduled to take place on 30 October at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

The awards serve as the continent’s only dedicated platform for recognising technical innovation, safety leadership, and operational excellence across the rigging and lifting value chain.

The strategic importance of the awards extends beyond mere recognition, offering a significant commercial advantage for participants in an increasingly competitive industrial landscape.

Organizers emphasize that finalist and winner status provide a tangible asset for firms during tender submissions and client engagements, effectively differentiating leaders from their peers.

The program is specifically structured to be inclusive, inviting submissions from individual technicians and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) alongside large-scale corporate entities and manufacturers.

“The Lifting Awards shine a spotlight on the visionaries, trailblazers, and unsung heroes driving our industry forward,” noted Lifting Africa in a recent media statement. “Every winner and finalist represents a story of perseverance, innovation, and dedication. We are proud to honour individuals and companies whose commitment continues to raise the bar for safety, sustainability, and technical excellence.”

The 2026 campaign features a diverse array of categories designed to reflect the evolving needs of the sector, ranging from the Apprentice of the Year and Excellence in Engineering to more specialised fields such as Environmental Impact and Innovation in Service.

Submissions will be evaluated by an independent panel of industry experts who will weigh each entry against rigorous criteria involving safety standards, sustainability, and overall contribution to the African industrial landscape.

As the sector looks toward the July 31 entry deadline, the event continues to draw significant institutional support from major industry players. This year’s awards are backed by prominent sponsors, including Yoke Industrial Corp, RiConnect, and Electra Mining Africa, signalling a unified industry effort to foster skills development and raise safety benchmarks.

For decision-makers in the engineering and materials-handling space, the October gala remains a critical networking hub for the continent’s industrial pioneers.
